Caldwell County’s largest city and the center for commerce and government, Lenoir is located just off U.S. 321. Summers come alive here with activities for the entire family. From April until October, there is something going on every weekend. Events include the annual Blackberry Festival, cycling events, regular bluegrass jams and Saturday night concerts, cruise-in car shows, Sculpture Celebration, an art and antique festival, Friday after Five entertainment and Fabulous Family Films, which are shown outdoors on a two-story inflatable screen.

Named for Revolutionary War General William Lenoir, the city is rich in history with much of the town’s original architecture still intact and the downtown district is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

The Caldwell Heritage Museum and the Caldwell Arts Council’s main gallery, which feature monthly exhibits, are open year-round. Tours of General Lenoir’s homestead, Fort Defiance, are also available. The home, which has been fully restored to its original time period, is located in historic Happy Valley.

Visitors to the city will also find a warm and inviting downtown filled with eateries and other stores including a wine shop, book store, coffee house, bike shop, outdoor farmer’s market, ice cream shop and several antique stores and gift shops ideal for browsing and buying.
