If there is one thing you can be sure of, it is that when you Visit Lenoir & the NC Foothills, you won’t have a shortage of unique things to do. In addition, if you are fortunate enough to live here, staying active in the community is a focus for all ages, including children. Coming up on April 25, 2020, you’ll have an excellent opportunity for some fun in downtown Lenoir – the 10th Annual North Carolina Gravity Games!
The main focus of the NC Gravity Games is to inspire children and youth and get them interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). The competition, supported by Google, Appalachian State University, the University of North Carolina, and the City of Lenoir, involves racing gravity-powered cars that were designed and scratch-built by teams of NC students.
While the event is fun for participants and observers alike, the benefit to the future of our community cannot be understated. STEM occupations are growing steadily (17% compared to 9.8% in other industries), so events such as the NC Gravity Games that encourage young people into math and science fields is beneficial to everyone. If you would like to encourage your child to get involved with this year’s NC Gravity Games, check out the game rules and note that registration is required by March 13. There are many different teams they can get involved with, including Scout Troops, school groups, and Boys & Girls Clubs.
Whether you have a child involved or not, mark the date on your calendar, as we’re confident that the races, rides, food & fun shouldn’t be missed!
